Assistant Director

Overnight summer camp at Adirondack has been a part of Merritt’s Life for over forty-four years. As Camp’s Assistant Director since 1999, her goal is to pass on the same ideals of leadership, growing, and caring to staff and campers she received as a young camper. Merritt works with parents to get to know every child and teams up with all departments of Camp to ensure campers receive the care and attention outlined by parents in the Confidential Questionnaires. Merritt also oversees our Food Service camp area, including menu preparation, special diets, and food allergies.

In the off-season, Merritt is a Certified Insurance Counselor, former fourth-generation owner of her family’s insurance agency, and Commercial Marketing Executive for a well-renowned insurance agency in Saratoga Springs. She has two Masters degrees: The first from Fairleigh Dickinson University in English Literature and Secondary Education and the second from Rutgers University in Comparative Literature with a concentration in Women and Gender Studies. Merritt loves being at camp and has passed on her passion for summer camp for boys and girls to her husband, Jim, daughter, Heather, son-in-law, Tom, and future camper – grandson Heath.

Camp has afforded me an amazing opportunity to grow as an individual. I honestly believe that every minute of every Adirondack day is a gift to all of us and that our time together should never be wasted.
